Louise Taft

Louise Taft

Louise is an experienced specialist Employment Solicitor dealing with matters arising from the world of work, whether contentious or non contentious. She qualified as a Solicitor in 2002 and joined Freemans in 2016.

She has dealt with Employment Tribunal claims on behalf of both employees and employers involving almost all aspects of Employment Law, including Unfair Dismissal, Constructive Dismissal, Discrimination and Harassment, Whistleblowing, TUPE, Redundancy, Breach of Contract, Holiday Pay and Deductions from Wages.  Louise also has a particular interest in cases involving Pregnancy and Maternity Discrimination and arising from rights afforded to parents and carers. She has represented clients in the Employment Appeal Tribunal and Court of Appeal as well as at first instance.

As a Tribunal advocate, Louise is well placed to give clients early advice as to the prospects of success at Tribunal and the merits or otherwise of settlement as well as being able to ensure that cases are properly prepared in a way to best present the evidence to the Tribunal Judge.

Louise also uses her Tribunal experience in her advisory work, assisting employers with staff problems such as underperformance, misconduct and absence, when employees raise grievances or blow the whistle and advising on redundancy, restructuring and TUPE.

She is also able to advise both employers and employees in cases involving restrictive covenants and employee competition.

Louise believes in prevention rather than cure and is therefore happy to assist in drafting contracts, policies and procedures for both employees and freelance contractors to protect parties in the event of dispute. She is also happy to advise employees and contractors on agreements presented to them, and help negotiate changes if necessary.

An active member of the Employment Lawyers Association, Louise has sat on a number of their Legislative and Policy Committees looking at topics as wide ranging as changes to the Equality Act, the Tribunal fee remission scheme and proposals for an online court.

Out of hours Louise enjoys running (both on her own and after an active toddler), baking and following football, cricket, cycling and athletics.
