Hilka is resourceful and tenacious and known for her knowledge and expertise in adoption and international children law, including international surrogacy, and her experience of representing children in Court proceedings. A former journalist, Hilka still regularly contributes to various legal publications.
Hilka was one of three finalists for the 2014 Family Legal Aid Lawyer Award and won the prestigious Jordan’s Family Law Associate of the Year Award in 2015 where she was described as having a “razor sharp mind”.
Hilka has been recommended in the Legal 500 directory as an ‘excellent” and “dedicated, hardworking lawyer who goes the extra mile for her clients’, and as a ‘Next Generation Lawyer’, and is highly recommended for international adoption – ‘what she doesn’t know about this subject isn’t worth knowing’ (2018/19). Chambers and Partners has for the second year ranked her as an ‘Associate to Watch’ and have commented: "She works really hard for her clients and really does go the extra mile … and is tactical in her approach but never loses sight of what is important to the people she is representing." (2017/18) and "a superb lawyer whose particular skill is her ability to represent children. Her empathy and patience ensures that she is able to take their instructions and ensure their best interests are served." (2018/19).
When not at work, Hilka enjoys spending time with family and friends, a good meal, the theatre, playing the piano and travel; and, time and inclination permitting, keeping fit through boxing and yoga.
Hilka is fluent in German and English, and speaks French and some Russian.
